I used to guest blog on my wife’s website when it first started. I would post on Monday’s as a series called “Music Monday’s.” It was fun, but hard to specifically appeal to her audience. Since this blog is more music centric I thought it would work better here, so I’ve decided to bring it back.
For this first installment of music mondays I decided to feature the band Eisley. I’ve been a fan of this band for quite some time now and they recently released their long-awaited third full length album entitled The Valley. The band is from Tyler, TX and features three sisters, a brother and their cousin. They’re known for their beautiful vocals and whimsical music and lyrics. Although more recently, especially with this new album they’ve traded the whimsy for a more edgy sound, exploring much more personal subject matter. Check out this acoustic performance of their new song “Better Love.”

I’m planing on writing a review of Eisley’s new album so be on the look out for that in the coming weeks.
I’ve been kind of obsessed with this song for a while now and realized I haven’t really gotten the word out about it. I’m not really into the band that much as a whole, but this song is two minutes and seven seconds of pure joy. It features a female guest vocalist who’s voice I love along with great lyrics and some real nice electronic accompaniment. In addition the video for the song is brilliant. The animation is a lot of fun, at one point there is a choreographed dance started by a cat who is later joined by other animals including a one armed panda. If that isn’t enough to get you to push play then you may not be human. Enjoy!

Last night when I realized the rain had turned to snow I was pretty depressed. However, when I stepped outside this morning to even more snow I was okay with it. I love snow and I love winter, but the winter this year in Minnesota and in much of the country was harrowing to say the least. I had honestly reached a point were my spirit had been broken and the thought of more snow was more than I could handle. This morning was different though, dispite the snow it no longer felt like winter, it felt like spring. And in that moment I realized the first day of spring had somehow passed me by. Spring is here people! This snow will probably be gone in a matter of days. I don’t even think I’m going to bother shoveling. Next thing we know the trees will be blosseming, the temperatures will rise and it’s going to taste especially sweet after this long snowy winter. The changing of seasons is a beautiful thing!
Blogs are hard I must say. I had another blog, that technically still exists, called A Wood Between the Worlds. It was just sort of a mishmash of whatever I felt like writing about. Then I decided I wanted to create a blog that was strictly dedicated to music, thus Reckless Abandon was born. However, I found as much as I love music, it is difficult for me to write about it. With that said, I’ve decided to go back to the mishmash format of my first blog. I’ll still write about music from time to time, but I’m going to start writing about other things as well. My original thought with Reckless Abandon was the idea of living life with reckless abandon, as in living life to it’s fullest, taking risks, stepping out your comfort zone, which provides for wide range of things to write about. Some topics I might cover are faith, food, friends, family (the 4 F’s… I just made that up) random thoughts that pop into my head and maybe a few complaints and rants here and there. Also, my wife Rachel and I are expecting our first child this May, so I’m sure I’ll be writing plenty about that. Hopefully I’m able to maintain some consistency this time around. I guess time will tell. Thanks for reading.
